Lee was born to Lyle Alva and Catherine Margaret Pedelty, along with her younger sister Judy. They grew up on a farm in Nora Springs, IA.

She loved playing high school basketball. Lee made the team along with Judy. Being the shortest player helped her be fast and mighty! The whole family enjoyed Iowa's High School basketball. The whole town would caravan to watch the state championship tournaments. Lee and Judy continued the tradition with their mom, "Grandma Kitty" and their children. Oh, what a Joy!

Her husband, Lowell Sanquist, joined the family in 1956. He landed on her dad's runway, plowed into a field on the farm. He would pick her up in the plane for dates while they were in high school to go roller skating. He later entered the Army and Lee waited for him and attended Iowa State Teachers College, which is now Northern Iowa University and met lifelong sorority sisters. After marriage she worked as a high school English teacher and he a Deputy Sheriff of Cerro Gordo County. He later joined the FAA and his career moved them all over the state of Iowa. While in Burlington they welcomed their daughter, Susan Lee, in 1966. Later in Des Moines they welcomed daughter, Sherri Lynn, 1968. It was then Lowell built his Pitts Special "Sherri Sue".

After moving to Wichita, KS, Lee would marry another love, David Kopper. They enjoyed square dancing, playing bridge and running marathons. He helped her figure out computers so she could start making cards with her brand name "Sugar" on the back before card making became so popular.

Lee retired from the United States Post Office after 25 years and moved to Creston, IA to be close to her sister. There she started making American Girl Doll clothes and scrap booking. Lee and Judy would travel the world together!

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lowell, her beloved sister and her husband Ken.
