Boyd Leon Smith, 70, of Gurdon, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, in a Hot Springs hospital. Born June 9, 1937, at Russellville to Russell and Virchie Vanderpool Smith, he was a retired lumber inspector from Anthony-Higgs Lumber Co. and of the Baptist faith. He was predeceased by his wife, Susie Smith; and an infant daughter. Survivors include three sons, Russell Smith of Gurdon, Curtis Smith of Spartanburg, S.C. and David Grant Smith of Hot Springs; one sister, Ruth Moore of Compton; and six grandchildren. The memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday in Welch Funeral Home, Arkadelphia, with Brother Robin Moore officiating. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Okla. 73123-1718. Arrangements are by Welch Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.
