James William "Chinky" Barrett, 65, of Mount Carmel, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023. Jim was formerly of Shamokin.

He was born in Coal Township January 18, 1958 a son of the late William C. Barrett, Sr., and Laura (Webber) Barrett.

Jim was a 1976 graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1976 - 1980.

Chinky made a career as an Auto Mechanic. He spent his final years Owning and Operating a one-man auto-repair shop: Alternative Automotive, Shamokin.

He was an avid railfan. When he was not working on cars, he could be found playing with his large collection of model trains or visiting historic railroad sites with his son.

Jim was known by family and friends alike for his generosity: Whether it be a ride to an appointment, help on a project or a household repair, Jim was eager to lend a helping hand to anyone who asked.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Tony R. Barrett and Charles T. Barrett.

Chinky is survived by his son: Seth R. Barrett of Coal Township and his fiancée: Tina Adams of Mount Carmel; his sisters: Ann (Ray) Frasch of Coal Township and Patricia (Curtis) Clossen of Lock Haven; his brothers: William C. (Patricia) Barrett Jr. of Shamokin, Richard (Susan) Barrett, Sr. of Elysburg, and Michael (Bess) Barrett of Coal Township; his sister-in-law: Mary Ann Anderson Barrett; his nieces: Marissa Barrett, Maria Silcox, Amanda Clossen, and Sara Benis; his nephews: Stephen Barrett, Matthew Barrett, Richard Barrett, Jr., Charles Barrett, Michael Barrett, and Cody Clossen; his great-nieces and great-nephews; his great-great-niece; and, his beloved dog: Timber.

Family and Friends are invited to a Visitation from 10:00 - 11:00 AM on Friday, November 24, 2023 in James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch Street, Coal Township.

Funeral Services and Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at 01:30 PM.
