From Schaetter Funeral Home:

Earl James Knopp of Fredericksburg passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at the age of 86.

Earl (Butch to all who knew him) was born on February 1, 1937 in Fredericksburg to Ted and Amanda May Hahne Knopp. He married Sammie Sue Sembritzky on December 26, 1959 in Fredericksburg. They were married for 63 years, enjoying traveling with friends to various states, road-tripping with family to Port Aransas and grandchildren's sporting events, and just being together.

Butch is survived his wife: Sammie Knopp of Fredericksburg

Two children and their spouses: Jeff and Lisa Knopp of San Angelo

Lisa and Tim Kamen of Fredericksburg

Four Grandchildren: Stormie Young, Ashleigh Knopp, Tyler Kamen, and Matthew Kamen

Four Great Grandchildren: Ashlee, Connor, RJ, and Marcus

Sister: Janet "Patty" Keyser of Fredericksburg

Along with his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his in-laws: Louis and Nan Sembritzky.

As active as Butch was, he accomplished so many wonderful things. After graduating from Southwest Texas State University with a degree in Accounting, Butch found his true calling of helping young people as a teacher. Butch influenced the lives of so many young students in his 46 year teaching career, with the final 36 years as a 6th grade math teacher in Kerrville ISD. His UIL math teams were successful as every year his students brought home trophies and medals. During his teaching years in Kerrville, he also served for 21 years on the board of the Texhillco School Employees Federal Credit Union. After his retirement in 2006, he returned to Kerrville ISD to tutor struggling students with the STAAR test. He then enjoyed being a part of the mentoring program for students from FISD elementary school through high school. Butch knew his purpose was to serve others.

While he was a natural as a teacher, Butch loved nature and the outdoors. He took pride in taking care of land and horses in the country and found enjoyment hunting and fishing with the good ole boys. He spent countless hours in the backyard garden tending to his juicy tomatoes, plentiful okra, and flourishing Guadalupe Gold sweet corn. He was an avid reader and enjoyed sitting in the backyard or on his spot on the couch reading a good book.

Butch will always be remembered for his selfless nature and love, not only for his students, but for the Lord, family, and friends. He looked forward to visits from his grandchildren and instilled in them a love for family and a strong faith. He was a long-time member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.

The family would like to thank the Methodist Hill Country Memorial Hospice for their love and excellent care.

Services for Butch Knopp will be held on Friday November 10th at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall with Rev. Bobby Vitek officiating.

The Family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall prior to the Service.

Entombment of Cremains will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.
