Obituary for John Medley Bastow
(KS) Haddam Clipper-Leader Nov. 29, 1945

Funeral services for John Medley Bastow, 1254 North Cedar Street, Nevada, Mo., who died at the Nevada hospital November 18, were held Wednesday afternoon at the Ferry Chapel with the Rev. H. M. Claypool officiating. Burial was in the Moore cemetery at Nevada, Mo.

Mr. Bastow's death came as a shock to his relatives and friends. He suddenly became ill on November 9, and the doctor was called but it was though that he was not seriously ill. He was born on his father's homestead west of Washington, Kansas on September 8, 1882, where he spent his childhood. On March 24, 1909, he was married to Maude Bayne and to this union three sons were born two of whom survive him.

The family moved to Parks, Nebraska, in 1918 where they lived until 1924 when they moved to Nevada, where they since have made their home. Mrs. Bastow died June 27, 1939.

Mr. and Mrs. Bastow became members of the Sylvandale Missionary Baptist church near Nevada in 1932, where he held his membership until his death. On March 5, 1942, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Hazel Helm.

Survivors are the widow, two sons, Rodrick and Rex both in the service, Rodrick being in Tokyo and Rex in France; Rodrick's wife, Ida Fay and children Jackie 5, and Judy 2; two stepsons, Ray and Arthur Helm of the home, one step-daughter, Mrs. Forrest Brown of Nevada, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Bastow is a former Haddam resident and has many friends here who are sorry to learn of his passing.
