Obituary: Lois Margaret Pickler

Lois Margaret Mc Dowell Pickler, 70 of 3665 Cedar Street, died January 16, 1984 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home. Her funeral will be at the 10 a.m., Friday at the Langrell-Monroe Mortuary Chapel, 1950 Place Street. Private interment will follow at Pine Haven Cemetery in Halfway. The Reverand Ron Christie of the Church of the Nazarene will officiate.

Mrs. Pickler was born on February 12, 1913 at Pocatello, Idaho to Marcus and Lola McDowell. She was reared and educated in Pocatello. She moved to Baker in November 1973 to live with her daughter Babe Pierce.

Mrs. Pickler was born 12 February 1913 in Pocatello, Bannock County, Idaho and was one of eight daughters and three sons born to Marcus Eugene and Lola C. Conquest McDowall. Lois spent most of her life in Pocatello as a youngster growing up. A child of the Depression years, Lois learned the survival skills of that difficult time. She married Edgar Leroy Pickler 21 July 1932 in Baker City, Baker County, Oregon. A son, Billy Leroy was born 1 April 1933 and died 27 December 1933. A daughter, Artha Royaline was born 7 May 1934 and died 10 days later. A daughter, Lois Margaret was born 1 April 1936. When Pearl Harbor was attached and World War II was declared, the family moved to Cottage Grove and to Portland where she served her country by volunteering to become one of the many women who did welding of the military ships in the shipyards.

Survivors include her children, Geraldine Rigby of Pocatello, Idaho, Lois M. Black, Caldwell, Idaho, Richard Pickler & Babe Pierce, both of Baker, and Pat Byron of Nampa, Idaho; two sisters, Bessie Joest of Pocatello, Idaho and Edna Rumbly of Alaska; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Billy, a daughter Ortha; and brothers and sisters, Arthur, Doris, Sam, Hazel, Jimmy, Evelyn, Norma and Virginia.

Friend may visit the Langrell Monroe Mortuary Thursday and until service time on Friday. The casket will be closed at the services. The family suggest memorial contribution to the charity of one's choice through the Langrell Monroe Mortuary.
