"Softly and Tenderly" hymn was sung in the Academy Award winning movie Trip to Bountiful (1985), and at a memorial service for American civil rights leader Martin Luther King, on April 8, 1968, at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Atlanta, Georgia.
