V. J. ROE RITES HELD THURSDAY BURIED OAKWOOD
Funeral services for Vernard Jackson (Bud) Roe, 37, were held from the Corley Funeral chapel Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock.
The rites were conducted by Rev. M. B. Howell, pastor of the First Methodist church of Waco, formerly of Corsicana and Navarro county.
Burial was in Oakwood cemetery.
Roe's bodv was found mangled on a railroad right-of-way 12 miles east Of Midland late Sunday. The body apparently had been run over by a train.
Roe served eight years in the U. S. navy and was a 1-C gunner at the time of hia discharge. He escaped injury at Pearl Harbor when the Japs attacked, Dec. 7, 1941, he later wes seriously wounded in action while aboard destroyers.
Relatives said he left Corsicana last week to visit in Dallas and had mentioned the possibility he might go to California on a visit.
He had attended the local veterans cabinet making school.
Surviving are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Roe, Corsicana; two brothers, Clinton W. Roe, U. S. army, Okinawa, and Wilson B. Roe, Dallas; three sisters. Mrs. E. L. Charles and Mrs. Louise Wilbanks, both of Corsicana, and Mrs. E. B. Buchanan, Tucson, Ariz., and other relatives.
Pallbearers were Harold A. Jones, Henry J. Downing, Durbin Hanks, Ellis Lockhart, Jack Talley and Woodrow Bracken.
