PORTSMOUTH- Margaret Ruth Richards, 98 years-young, passed away after a short illness on October 29, 2023 surrounded by care-givers and a Hospice nurse. A native Californian, she enjoyed twenty years as a United States Navy Nurse Anesthetist traveling to many foreign assignments. After retiring as a Lt. Commander, she made her home in Portsmouth, VA.

Marge, as many friends called her, became active in a number of genealogical societies. She was Registrar for the Fort Nelson Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution for a number of years. She was also a Trustee for the Chapter House. She was a Chaplain, for the Virginia Chapter National Society Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America, a member of the Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century and a member of the Virginia State Society National Society United States Daughters of 1812. She was an active member in the Portsmouth SPCA, and had Silkie show-dogs. She loved her rescue dog, Buddie.

She is survived by her California Cousin, Ann Anderson; Ann's daughter, Paige; and her two sons, Kyle and Nick. She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, David Richards; and a long-time companion, Doris.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10 AM on Monday, November 13, 2023 at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Veteran's Cemetery in Suffolk, VA.
