Deceased was born in Morgan County, Illinois, Oct 7, 1843, and came to Iowa with his parents, John and Rachel Welch, in 1848; lived in or near Pella until grown. He has lived in Des Moines many years and was engaged in the lumber business.
Mr. Welch was baptized into the Catholic church a short time before his death. He leaves to mourn his death a wife and seven children--James and Raleigh, of Chicago; Robert, Jennie and Ruby, of Knoxville; Grover and Beulah, of Des Moines; one brother, J.B. Welch, of Asbestos, Ore.; and one sister, Mrs. N.S. Lounsberry, of Pella. The funeral took place at the Church of the Visitation in Des Moines; burial in St. Ambrose cemetery.

Thomas J. Welch, 71 years old, died yesterday morning at his home, 1344 York Street. He is survived by his wife and two children, Grover H. Welch and Miss Beulah Welch. Mr. Welch had lived in Des Moines for the past 25 years, coming here from Pella, where he was an early settler. He was engaged as a buyer of walnut lumber for the Hubbell Mills and formerly was employed in the same capacity by Judge Prouty. Funeral services will be held at the Church of Visitation Saturday morning at 9 o'clock.
