Cecil Oakley Allen, age 85, of the Bushy Fork Community entered into Eternal Joy of the Lord on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at his home. He was born April 6, 1937 to Daniel and Malissa Oakley Allen. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Clarine Norris and Pauline Whitfield.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sandra Moore Allen; 5 children: Cynthia Bean (Steve), Terry Allen (Tracy), Wendy Robinson (David), Tammy Day (Tom), and Shannon Allen (Amber); One sister, Vera Whitfield, and one brother, Danny Allen. Twelve grandchildren: Courtney Bean Tilley (Jayme), Connor Bean, (Tara), Chase Allen (Nikki) Julie Robinson, Ashley Allen Forton (Chris), Daniel Robinson, Samuel Day, Alana Robinson, Elizabeth Day, Peyton Allen, Aidan Allen, Kylie Allen; 5 great-grandchildren: Kendall Tilley, Asher Bean, Molly Kate Tilley, Kyson Bean, and Nora Jane Forton.
Cecil dedicated his life to supporting his wife, raising children, spoiling grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He and his wife faithfully raised 5 children and instilled in them the value of faith in Jesus, family, fidelity and hard work. He loved taking his grandchildren on trips to the field and the barns, and teaching them how to drive. The grandchildren would often come over and stay in the "Allen hotel" (the big basement room), play on the farm, ride the golf cart, getting stuck in the creek behind the house may times.
Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers. - Proverbs 17:6.
He farmed his entire life and in the peak of his farming career, he (and his son Terry) raised upwards of 100 acres of tobacco annually and 2000 hogs. Farming was his livelihood. His farming also included raising a large garden to provide food year round and in his later years, flowers in the yard to show the beauty of Creation. He always liked to pick flowers for his bride whether from the yard or wild flowers from the field.
Cecil met the Lord at Clement Baptist Church and faithfully worshipped and served as a member from a young age. He served as a Sunday School teacher, on the deacon board and committees like the grounds, pastor search and others. Once retired from farming he went on several NC Baptist Men's disaster relief trips after Hurricane Floyd, Katrina and others.
Cecil loved his community. Frequently he visited people and delivered food or a delicious dessert his wife had prepared as he travelled from field to field. He was an avid Wolfpack fan and enjoyed poking fun at some local Tarheel fans.
A funeral service will be held 2PM Sunday, September 11, 2022 at Clement Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 to 1:45 PM in the Fellowship Hall.
Memorials may be made to Clement Baptist Church, 8480 Burlington Rd., Hurdle Mills, NC 27541 or to the Hurdle Mills Fire Department, P.O. Box 160, Hurdle Mills, NC 27541.
