Vashti Coleman was the youngest daughter of the eleven children of Patriot Francis Coleman and Margaret Daniel. She was born in Georgia during the migration of her family from Virginia to St. Stephens, Alabama after the Revolutionary War. In Georgia, she met husband, John Charles Williamson, esq. of Davidson County, TN with whom she had two sons, Charles Fox, and Daniel Mobley. She divorced John Charles in 1817 and married Matthew Shaw in 1827.
The father of Vashti's oldest child Caroline, who became Mrs. Green Berry Chaney,
is in question. There is an 1821 marriage bond naming her as Caroline Hainsworth, but to date there has been no documentation of Vashti's having been married before Williamson. Mr. Shaw died in 1837, and 1850 Washington County is the last we see of Vashti living with her son Daniel Mobley and the first six of her ultimate 23 grandchildren.
