Guy Noah Young
Hickory, N.C. - Guy Noah Young, 83, passed away April 16, 2008, at the Veteran's Nursing Home in Salisbury after a period of declining health.
Born Dec. 22, 1924, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late George and Madge Peeler Young.
He was married to Helen Leatherman Young, who passed away in 1997.
He was a member of Palm Tree United Methodist Church in Vale and was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II. He retired from Hickory Tavern Furniture and Big Lots.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Robert and Sandra Setzer of Conover; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dexter and Mary Young of Madison, Ala., and Robert and Wanda Young of Elkin; four grandsons, Robey and Carmen Setzer of Newton, Petty Officer 2nd Class Ryan and Jessica Setzer of Lancaster,Va., Bobby and Tara Young of Andover N.J., and Jeremiah Young of Madison, Ala.; two granddaughters, Reginia Setzer Turner and husband, Clayton, of St. Mary's, Ga., and Jennifer Young of Madison, Ala.; a great-grandson, Eric Setzer of Newton; five great-granddaughters, Caitlin, Carley and Cayla Turner, all of St. Mary's, Ga., Krisandra Setzer of Newton and Mackenize Young, of Andover, N.J.; a sister, Marie Sigmon of Statesville; two sisters-in-law, Ann Young of Vale and Eva Young of Hickory; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four brothers, Ralph, Forrest, Preston and George Young Jr.; and a sister, Hazel Young.
The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 20, 2008, at Palm Tree United Methodist Church in Vale, with the Rev. Dr. D. Wayne Ratcliffe officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion, Post 48. Pallbearers will be Robey Setzer, Ryan Setzer, Bobby Young, Clayton Turner, Danny Young and Troy Leatherman. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Hickory Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Palm Tree United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 129, Vale, N.C. 28168. Hickory Funeral Home, 1031 Eleventh Ave. Blvd., SE, is in charge of the arrangements.
