Curtis "Bubba" Axum of Palestine passed away on October 25, 2023, at the age of 66. He was born in Palestine, TX on May 8, 1957, to J.L. Jake Axum and Mary Hill Langston Axum.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Evangelistic Temple in Palestine, officiated by Pastor Michael Lumpkins. Services are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home. Visitation will be held prior to the service at Evangelistic Temple from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Bubba resided in Palestine all his life and was a member of Broyles Chapel Baptist Church. He was a general contractor for many years and owner of Axum Tile and Granite. Bubba enjoyed being in the great outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. One of his favorite things to do was cook and entertain friends and family. Curtis was a very loving, giving, kindhearted, and respectful person who was always a man of his word. Mr. Axum was a fighter and a warrior all the way to the end. His loved ones and numerous friends will sincerely miss him.

He was preceded in death by his father, J.L. Jake Axum; and grandparents, Poynor and Ruby Hill, and Tucker and Belle Axum.

Mr. Axum is survived by his wife, best friend, soulmate, and love of his life of 5 and a half years, Lynn Axum; son, Brandon Axum and daughter, Amy Axum of Mississippi; brother, Michael Axum of Palestine; sister, Sheri Travelstead and husband Greg of Palestine; grandchildren, Tyler Feranda of Mississippi, Jordan Feranda of Mississippi, and Caden Taylor McGrath of Baton Rouge, LA; nephews, Cole Hudson and wife Lindsey, Derrik DeBerry, and Dakota Hudson and wife Jessica; nieces, Brandy Blackstock, Allyson Axum, Sarah Jane Axum, and Anna Axum; aunt, Judy Reed of Denson Springs, as well as numerous other family and loved ones.

Pallbearers will be Rudy Kaudelka, Larry Kinney, Gilbert Campos, Donnie Munsinger, Terry Evans, Cole Hudson, Chantz Brooks, and Derrik DeBerry.

Curtis's heart was for the church and its youth group. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Curtis to the Broyles Chapel Youth Building Fund at P.O. Box 1727, Palestine, TX 75802.
