Our loving wife, mother, nana, and sister, Mary Ann Brown Holmes, crossed the separating line peacefully on October 19th, 2023, at the age of 73. She was an independent, strong, vibrant, and loving woman. Mary Ann was born in Ogden, Utah, to Jean Crockett and John Edward Brown on November 27th, 1949. She has two sisters, Martsie (Spencer) and Barbara (Lindeman).

Mary Ann attended Ogden High School, class of '67. She attended Utah State University for one year before transferring to Weber State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education while being a part of the LaDianada Sorority. She began teaching at Lewis Elementary School before returning to get her Master's degree in Family Studies and Child Development at Michigan State University. She resumed teaching at Ogden High School and Weber State University. After 14 years as an educator, she returned to Utah State University to receive her administrative degree. After graduation, Mary Ann was an assistant principal at Ben Lomond High School and later became a principal at Horace Mann Elementary. As principal, she implemented the Reading Renaissance Program and traveled throughout the United States as an Ambassador for Accelerated Reader. In 2000, she was presented the Mattie Wattis Harris Spirit of the American Women Public Education award for her education and community outreach contributions. She moved on to the Ogden City School District office and later retired. Her love for her students made for a passionate and successful career, wanting to create the best environment for students to learn.

Mary Ann met the love of her life, Vern W. Holmes, in the spring of 1982. The couple married on November 12th, 1982, in the Ogden Temple. Together, they had four amazing boys. After making West Haven their home for 20 years, Mary Ann and her family moved to Farr West. As a retired couple, they shared time between Farr West and St George, Utah.

Throughout her life, Mary Ann had many hobbies. She enjoyed playing tennis, softball, skiing, watching Michigan State University sports, quilting, traveling, reading, researching family history, and teaching in various church callings. For several years, Mary Ann was a ski instructor at Powder Mountain. She traveled to many places throughout her years, with one of her favorite places being James and Paula Whittaker's ranch in Leadore, Idaho. Later in life, her favorite pastimes were watching online court and attending church meetings.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Vern W. Holmes; three sons and their partners; four grandkids; and sister Barbara. She is preceded in death by her son Zach Holmes, parents John and Jean Brown, sister Martsie Spencer, and other loved relatives.

A viewing will be held at Myers Mortuary located at 846 Washington Blvd on October 26th, 2023, from 6-8 pm and on October 27th from 9:30-10:30 am at the Farr West LDS chapel (1800 N. 1800 W. Farr West, Utah 84404). Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, October 27th, at the Farr West LDS chapel. Interment will take place at Ogden City Cemetery following the funeral service. Mary Ann's service will be live streamed and can be watched on her obituary page at www.myers-mortuary.com to watch scroll to the bottom of the obituary, if unable to watch the day of the service you can watch it later, it will remain on our website indefinitely.
