BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES:
!OBITUARY:
Thornton Amos Crozier, pioneer resident of Marion Co., brother of Ed. R. Crozier, of Knoxville , died at his home in Adair Co., near Anita, January18, 1924, at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 8 days. He was born in Butte Co., California, on November 10, 1852, and came to this state, vicinity of Knoxville, with his parents in the year 1855 and resided here until 1882.
Mr. Crozier was united in marriage with Miss Laura Belfast at Knoxville, Iowa, on January 17th, 1875, so that for nearly fifty years they had walked the ways of life together. Into their home, through the years, came eight children, six of whom have grown to manhood and womanhood. One died when but a little child and another as a young man passed away about seven years ago .
In the spring of 1882, Mr. Crozier and his wife came to Anita and located on the "home farm" , six and one-half miles southeast of Anita. Through nearly half a century of arduous toil and labor incident to the adverse conditions of frontier life in those earlier days in western Iowa, Mr. Crozier builded (as spelled) for himself and those dear to him, a comfortable home which became more dear to him as the years passed by. He dearly loved his family and his home. He was never happier than when surrounded by his dear ones. He was a friend to those in need of a friend, a good citizen and neighbor.
For a year or more he has been a great sufferer with a wasting disease which baffled the skill of medical science to overcome. It became evident two months or more ago that the end was not far away.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and six children. The children are: Charles Crozier of Council Bluffs, Iowa; William Crozier of Whitewood, South Dakota; Mrs. Nellie Herrick, Floyd H. Crozier, Byron D. Crozier and Mrs. Tressie Aupperle, all of whom live in this community.
Funeral services were held at the local M. E. church on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, and were conducted by the local pastor, Rev B W McEldowney. Interment was made in Evergreen Cemetery.
