There is another Find A Grave Memorial (ID 33315346 ) for a Jasper Newton Craig that has mistakenly used the death date and death plase for this Jasper Newton Craig. The former was buried in Dix, Jefferson County, Illinois. The Jasper Newton Craig in this memorial was born in Conway County, Arkansas within a few years after his parents moved from Fayette County Georgia. At 7 months of age, he appears with them in the 1850 census in Conway County, Arkansas. Based on tax records, the family moved to Searcy, White County, Arkansas in 1851. His father, William Morris Craig died 5 May 1857 in Searcy, White County and his mother married Absolum B. Dunn 14 May 1860, likely in White County, Arkansas. Later that same year, the 1860 U.S. Federal census population schedule shows Jasper Newton Craig living with his mother and step-father, still in Searcy. By the 1870 census, he had left home and begun his move west, residing in Griffin Township, Pope County, Arkansas, boarding with John Poe and helping him work his farm. Within 2-years, he had settled in Ellis County, Texas. In documents signed and notarized in Ellis County, Texas between 1872 and 1874, he sold the land in Arkansas he had inherited from his father to Burr Wilson Morris, his brother-in-law. In 1877, he married Lucy Warren in Ellis County and they had five daughters. Lucy (Warren) Craig died 27 Nov 1893. He was living with four of his daughters in Ennis, Ellis County, Texas in the 1900 census. Jasper Newton Craig died 14 Dec 1901 in Ellis County, Texas and was buried by his wife in the Myrtle Cemetery.
