Isaac Relyea, 64, of 339 Danforth St., was found dead under a corn shock in a field on the farm of County Commissioner T. B. Johnston east of Defiance at about 8:30 p.m. Monday. The body was discovered by his son, Daniel, and a neighbor Raymond Gearing who had gone in search of Mr. Relyea after he had failed to return to his home for the noon or evening meal. He is believed to have died about noon, presumably of a heart attack. He had been suffering from fainting spells, members of the family said. Mr. Relyea had begun shocking a field on the Johnston farm Monday morning. Members of the family were not really alarmed when he failed to come home at night because they thought he might have went to the Johnston home. The body was entirely covered by the shock of corn which apparently had been blown over by the high wind accompanying and the storm late Monday afternoon. The remains were taken to the Mansfield funeral home. He will be returned to the Relyea home this afternoon. Services will be held from the home at 2 p.m. Thursday and from Mansfield funeral home at 2:30 p.m.. Interment will be in the Brunersberg Cemetery, Rev. J. W. Acker of East Mark Lutheran Church will officiate. Mr. Relyea was a lifelong resident of Defiance. He was born July 27, 1874 in what was then known as Oak Park. For 29 years, he farmed the Harley property north of Defiance on Route 66. Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Elizabeth MacDonald; nine children: Joseph, Union City, Michigan; Mrs. Blanche Goachee and Mrs. Oscar Dawson, Toledo, Ohio; Mrs. Leo Caryer, Cecil, Ohio; Mrs. Irvin Flanagan, Grand Rapids, Michigan; Mrs. Herman Goldfuss and Angus Relyea, Defiance; Isaac. Jr., Ney and Daniel, at home; two sisters: Mrs. Wesley Lang, near Brunersberg and Mrs. Annie Pottorf, Roy, Montana; three brothers: Frank, near Arthur; William, Napoleon and Albert, South Bend, Indiana and 19 grandchildren.
