Richard D. "Dick" Ackerman, age 76, of Fennimore, formerly of Lancaster, passed away to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 18, 1946, in Lancaster, the son of Richard W. and Ann (Johll) Ackerman. Dick graduated from Lancaster High School in 1964, and it was during that time he was employed with Hauth Chevrolet Buick in Lancaster. After graduation he furthered his education at the Milwaukee Mechanic School. Upon returning to Lancaster, Dick worked at Hauth Chevrolet Buick. On June 12, 1965, he was united in marriage to Donna M. Glasbrenner at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster. Dick was employed at John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works as a Test Operator and semi driver, for 40 years, retiring in 2005. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local No. 94. Dick enjoyed camping, riding his motorcycle, and wintering in Gulf Shores, Alabama. He liked spending time tinkering in his garage. Dick loved time spent with family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Donna; their children: Kenneth (Jean), Richard Jr. (Sherry), Lynn (Terry) Kane, Tim (Cindy), Kristin (Bob) Pierce, and Angela (fiancé Chris Drew) Richardson; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his godson, Preston Richardson; his siblings: Judy Pederson, Jane (Mike) Chulafich, Mark (Sharon), Joel, and James (Charlene) Ackerman; sister-in-law, Rhonda Ackerman; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Richard and Ann, and his mother and father-in-law, Kenneth and Kathryn Glasbrenner, Dick was preceded in death by an infant brother, Roger, and a brother, Allan.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster.
