He was born on November 27, 1914 in LaGrange, Wyoming the son of Frank and Clara (Angel) Wiand, homesteaders from Iowa.

Roy attended LaGrange High School and was a member of the third graduating class from that school in 1932. He then worked at several jobs around the area for ranchers and farmers.

He went to work for the Holly Sugar Corporation in 1938 at Hawk Springs, Wyoming.

He married Charlotte Tate on January 24, 1942 at Kimball, Nebraska. When Roy moved up from shoveling heavy wet pulp to classing feeder cattle, he became the superintendent for the Holly Yards in Alvarado, California in the late 1940's and early 1950's.

He was then transferred back to Torrington, Wyoming where he ran both the Hawk Springs and Torrington feed lots which averaged about 3000 head of feeder cattle for market.

Roy also ran a farm near Veteran, Wyoming and owned and operated the Tote-Away Liquor Store in Torrington. He and his wife were co-owners of the Smart Shop in Torrington.

Following his retirement from Holly Sugar, Roy ran the South Sale Barn and sold silage treatment for the Stout-wall Company. Roy loved to visit and tell stories and play jokes on his buddies.

His favorite time of the year was Christmas where he put lights on anything that stood still.

His presence will be missed. He is survived by his wife Charlotte; daughter Kay Wiand of Torrington; son Ed Wiand of Jackson, Wyoming; a grandson and his wife, Gary and Jessica Wiand of Milliken, Colorado; great grandchildren, Sidney and Elizabeth Wiand of Milliken, Colorado; and a sister Hazel Miller of Castor Valley, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Harry, Ray, and Dean; and one sister Icle Jones.
