Randy Kent Betsinger, age 67, went to his heavenly home on September 20, 2023, after a brief battle with a bone infection.

Randy was born to Paul and Arlene (Dasse) Betsinger on March 5, 1956. He was one of six children, and the youngest of the boys. He loved reading comic books, especially Marvel, was a proud north-sider and loved playing football for Logan High School.

His love of football took him to Valley City State University in North Dakota, where he received a scholarship to play the game that he loved so well. While in Valley City, ND, he also met his true love and in 1976, married Roxanne (Dahl).

Randy and Roxanne graduated from VCSU with their teaching degrees in 1978 and a few weeks after graduation, their oldest child, Jennifer, was born. Four years later, their son, John, was born, but by that time the family had left North Dakota and moved to Wisconsin.

Over the years, Randy worked various jobs, from teaching and coaching to delivering medications for the hospital to retiring as a board piler. He was always at our events. We knew that we were what was important to him. That continued into the events for the grandkids. Papa could be counted on to be there cheering them on, no matter what.
Randy's passions in life were: football, movies, music, Elvis, community theatre, his grandchildren and Mt. Dew. The stories that he told about the bonds formed with the coaches and teammates on the football teams that he played formed him. Those names were names that my brother and I grew up hearing about always. He was so grateful to have known all of those guys. He could quote movies as relevant conversations and there were many times, and many movies that he just thought everyone should see.

There was always music in our household. Growing up, it didn't really matter what the genre was, music was simply a form of communication. While he didn't like all forms of music, he had an amazing ability to hear a song a few times and remember the lines. Elvis is and was ubiquitous with Randy. Even the grandkids are aware that Papa was a fan of Elvis. He did a mean impersonation, and we were so fortunate to have had the opportunity to enjoy the on-demand performances. Randy loved being part of so many different area community theatre programs. He kept performing until his injuries made it too difficult to continue. He was honored to have been able to have performed the role of Pharoah in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in more than one area production. The grandchildren were the reason he got up some days. He would be in pain, but the need to go pick up the youngest from school, or he'd have a plan to do something with his grandson (they were bud's) or his oldest had a soccer game, or his middle one was playing basketball. It didn't matter, if they were doing something, he wanted to be there. He loved those kids and he was going to be there for them. His love for Mt. Dew was eternal, and something the family loved to laugh about.

Randy is survived by his wife Roxanne, daughter Jennifer, son John (Rachel Hubacher), four grandchildren; siblings: Elizabeth Betsinger, Joseph (Patsy) Betsinger, Brenda Betsinger; sisters-in-law ReNae (Michael) Cooper, Rochelle (Kent) Loven, brother-in-law Rory (Kim) Dahl, and sister-in-law Robyn Pytlik and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his special girls Daisy and Chloe, his much loved German Shepherd dogs.

Randy was preceded into death by his father Paul W. Betsinger, his mother Arlene Betsinger, brother Robert Betsinger, brother Paul E. Betsinger, father-in-law Jack Dahl, mother-in-law JoAnn Dahl, and brother-in-law Mick Pytlik.

My family would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to the hospice team for the care rendered to my dad during his time at home on hospice care.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 2-3:30pm at the Dickinson Funeral Home, 515 McHughRoad, Holmen, Wisconsin with the service following from 3:30-4pm. The interment will take place at a date to follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Valley City, North Dakota.
