Ewell/Euell Stonewall Danner was born the 5th of the 5 children of Dr. Leonidas Getzen Danner & Margaret Susan Reeves Danner of Milan, Gibson Co., Tennessee. In his birth family he was the 2nd of two boys named for Civil War figures. His older brother, Robert E. Lee, "REL", Danner died about the age of 1 yr. old.
Ewell's father fought in the Civil War from Sumter Co., Alabama and named his sons after men who Leonidas had a great deal of respect for.
On 14 Sep 1910, Ewell married Ivy Pearl Hoppers, the daughter of J. Willam Hoppers & Sarah, "Sallie", Bailey Hoppers. Ewell & Ivy had three children of their own.
