Delanson (Schenectady County): Donald Ray Uveges (95) passed into the arms of our Lord on Friday morning, 10/13/23, at his son Michael's home. Passing just before sunrise, he maintained his Navy-inspired admonition, "Rise and Shine. Don't let the sun shine on your belly!" He was accompanied by members of his family both in body and in spirit.

Don was born in Portage, Penn. on 4/30/1928, the eleventh of thirteen Hungarian children born to Joseph and Veronica Danyi Uveges. He dropped out of high school to join the Navy and served in the Pacific arena from '45 to '48. He later earned a GED, bachelors from St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. and a master's degree. He was the first member of his family to complete college. Intensely curious and a voracious reader, he spent 36 years teaching history, Latin, and 6th grade in Fonda and Schoharie. He had been active in the Delanson Ambulance Corps, VFW, Grove Cemetery Board, Knights of Columbus, Senior Bus, and was very active at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. He also tutored English, a generosity that outlives him.

He had 2 successful marriages: the first with Catherine Iglar (d.1980); the second with Lois Bradt, with whom he lived in Braman's Corners, NY. Donald is preceded in death by first wife Catherine, siblings Agnes, Anne, Bertha, Pearl, Jimmy, Mick, Joe, Frank, Albert, Clarence, Verne, grandson Andrew, and daughter-in-law Lori (Thorington). He is survived by his wife, Lois, sons Joe (Kristen), John (Robin), Mick, Steve, brother James, and numerous step-children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
