Mr. Gene Braddy, age 83, of Alston, died Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness.  He was a native of Toombs County, was a 1957 graduate of Lyons High School, and was a U.S. Army veteran.  He retired from CSX Railroad after thirty-nine years as Assistant to the Division Engineer.  With his career with the CSX, it took him several places, including moving to Baldwin, Florida, to Yemassee, South Carolina, and Macclenny, Florida before moving to the Vidalia area twenty-five years ago.  He was a former Mason and Shriner in South Carolina and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church near the Blue Ridge Community.  He enjoyed the outdoors, especially deer and Dove hunting, fishing and camping.  He is preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Purvis Braddy; parents, William Taft Braddy and Ruby Lee Drake Braddy; and a sister, Elaine Braddy Morris Williams.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday afternoon, October 16th, from 1:00 until just prior to the funeral service at 3:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Ferrell officiating.  Burial will follow in the Odom Cemetery near Lyons.

In lieu of flowers, the suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by visiting their website at Stjude.org
