Katherine Love Norris Adkins was born on October 12, 1873 in Wisconsin, USA. Her parents were James Ambrose Norris (1843-1922) and Catherine Augusta Love Norris (1847-1939). There were six children in the family, Edith, Ruth, Katherine, Frances, Anna and Margaret.

1898 The Spanish–American War was a conflict between Spain and the United States, effectively the result of American intervention in the ongoing Cuban War of Independence. American attacks on Spain's Pacific possessions led to involvement in the Philippines.

On September 14, 1899 Katherine enlisted as a private in the Hospital Corps. She was Honorably discharged on September 23, 1902. While in the Hospital Corps she met her husband Robert who was also in the Hospital Corps.

Katherine was married to Robert Morris Adkins on October 9, 1902 in Sauk Center, Stearns County, Minnesota at the age of 28. They had one child Frances Love Adkins (1903-??).

In 1910 they lived in Jacksonville, FL where she was a nurse in a private home. In 1930 they were living in San Mateo County, CA.

Katherine died April 4, 1946 at the age of 72 and is buried in the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, CA where her husband is also buried.
