Paul J. Marinelli, 52, devoted husband and father, loyal friend, accomplished businessman and community leader, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2008. A man whose business acumen was exceeded only by his zest for life, Paul's abilities and instincts were unparalleled. In him, hard fought negotiations were guided by a generous heart and the most serious issues were mitigated by a keen sense of humor. It was the combination of these seemingly divergent qualities that allowed him to bring opposing parties to the table to reach agreements and to build strong partnerships to achieve goals that otherwise would have been unobtainable. Any obstacles produced a wealth of ideas from him. He put these ideas into actions that worked for everyone. He was drawn to those who were willing to invest their resources in a similar manner. Some of his favorite sayings related to "skin in the game" and "one plus one equals three." Above all, he strove for fairness and ethical standards that inspired others. He always treated others the way he wanted to be treated.

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Joan C.; and three children, Paul J. III, Cee Cee and Wm. Casey Marinelli; his father, Paul S. Marinelli; sister, Maureen Johnson; brother, Robert Marinelli; many sisters and brothers-in-law; and nieces and nephews. A New York native and a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Fordham University, Marinelli was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Barron Collier Companies in Naples. He joined the company in June 1986 as Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in December 1992, then assumed his final role in December 1997. Prior to joining the company, he was a senior manager with KPMG (Peat Marwick) on the Barron Collier account. His contributions, as well as his abilities to bring diverse communities together, extended well beyond his company. The recipient of the Urban Land Institute Pathfinder Award and the Leadership Collier Distinguished Alumnus Award, he served on the boards of numerous organizations including Audubon of Florida, NCH Healthcare System, Florida Tax Watch and the Florida Chamber of Commerce. He also served in leadership positions with the Regional Business Alliance of Southwest Florida, the Florida Land Council, the American Heart Association and the Business School Gulf Coast University, among many others. Among these significant accomplishments, however, he considered his family above all. An avid outdoor sportsman and supporter of his children's interests and activities, he insisted that his family regularly vacation together, not only to introduce his children to new perspectives, but also to share uninterrupted time with one another.

A Mass of Christian burial celebrating his life will be conducted in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m.

The family will receive friends at Naples Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 15th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The family has requested contributions in his memory be made to The Audubon of Florida at Corkscrew Sanctuary, 375 Sanctuary Road West, Naples, FL 34120, FGCU School of Business Scholarship Fund, 10501 FGCU Blvd. South, Ft Myers, FL 33965, Ave Maria Church, 5050 Ave Maria Blvd., Ave Maria, FL 34142.
Entombment will be at Naples Memorial Gardens Cemetary.
