MARY KATHERINE RIFFEL

Mary Katherine "Riffel" Hanneman was born near Golga, Russia, on June 24, 1874. On Jan 19 1894 she was united in holy wedlock to Geo H. Riffel, and to this union eleven children were born.

In 1904 she and her husband came to America and settled near Bison, Kansas. Two years later they took up a homestead in Kearney County, where they spent most of their lives. Her husband and one daughter preceded her in death. Shortly after the passing of her husband on Jan 9, 1941, she moved to Garden City where she resided since. On June 10, 1949 she married Conrad Hanneman who survives her. For the last 9 months she was at the Goodwilll Nursing home.

In addition to her husband she leaves to mourn six sons, George, Jr. of La Junta Colo.; Fred and Rudolph, of Wichita; Jake, of Union City, Michigan; Alex, of Garden City; four daughters, Marie and Hannah Brack of Leoti; Katherine Jones of Lakin; and Rachel Doherty of Lake City, 25 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs Eva Schwindt, of Bison and many other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Hanneman became seriously ill a week ago Friday and was taken to the hospital. She did not regain consciousness and passed away quietly about 8:30 o'clock on Monday morning, Jan. 28th having reached the age of 82 years, 7 months and 4 days.

Mrs. Conrad Hanneman

Mrs. Mary Katherine Riffel Hanneman, 82, died this morning in St. Catherine here, where she had been confined for about one week.

Mrs. Hanneman had been a resident of Western kansas for more than 50 years and lived in Garden City since 1941. She was born June 24, 1874, at Saratof, Russia.

She was married to George Riffel in Saratof in 1894 and in 1904 moved to the United States and a farm near Bison. Her husband died in 1941. later she was married to Conrad Hanneman.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 pm. in the Trinity Lutheran church. The Rev. E. W. Eilfert will officiate. Burial will be in Deerfield cemetery.

Surviving are the husband, of the home, six sons, George Riffel of Denver, Colo.' Alex Riffel, Garden City; Jake Riffel, Union City, Mich., and Rudolph and Fred Riffel, Wichita; and four daughters, Mrs. Catherine Jones, Lakin, Mrs. Rachel Doherty, Lake City, and Mrs. Marie Brack and Mrs. Hanna Brack, both of Leoti.
