After retiring from the Marine Corps in 1997, Ed devoted much of his time to non-profits and volunteering. Among other activities, he helped launch the non-profit navigator Guidestar.org, he was a mentor in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, and he volunteered for the National Parks Service at Yorktown. Ed enjoyed touring national battlefields, hiking, biking, golf, fishing on the Outer Banks, riding roller coasters at Busch Gardens, Rock Steady Boxing for Parkinson's, church fellowship at Williamsburg Community Chapel, and following the Boston Red Sox.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Eleanor Kelley; two sons; a daughter; five grandchildren; and a sister.
There will be a Celebration of Life at the Williamsburg Community Chapel, 3899 John Tyler Hwy., Williamsburg, VA, on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. An inurnment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by Nelsen Funeral Home.
