Mary Gholson Stanley was a daughter of Hiram and Nancy Gholson. She was born August 26th, 1847 in Hawkins County, Tennessee. Her family moved to Benton County, Arkansas in the early 1850s. Here she married Elijah B. Stanley on October 21st, 1866. They had six daughters together, and after her husband died in 1895, she did not remarry. She died one day after her 76th birthday in 1923, of myocarditis and was buried in Post Oak Cemetery.
