Waterloo Courier, Friday, 4/13/1923-Matthias Allard, son of Henry and Christiana Allard, was born in Waterloo, Canada, Aug. 16, 1843, and died at Rockwell City April 10, 1923. While still a small boy, he came with his parents to Illinois and settled near Freeport. At the age of 19, he was united in marriage to Mary Thomas, but they were not permitted to establish their home at once, as Mr. Allard enlisted in the army. From the time of his discharge until his death he served as a telegraph operator and railroad agent.
Into the Allard home was born three children, one of whom died in infancy. The son, Beecher S., is living in St. Paul, MN, and the daughter, Mrs. Nellie Wilson, lives at Indianapolis, IN. Mrs. Allard died six years ago. Mr. Allard married again and his second wife also preceded him in death. Mr. Allard's parents, brothers and sisters have also passed beyond. Three grandchildren are grown to maturity.
Mr. Allard served as agent in LaPorte City for several years when the road was known as the B. C. R. & N.
Mr. Allard's remains were brought to LaPorte City Thursday morning and a short funeral service was held at the cemetery at 2:30, in charge of Rev. R. E. Kerney, pastor of the Presbyterian Church. He was buried in the family lot. Those from out of town who were here for the last rites were Miss Ethel Allard, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Casson, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Slippy, Mrs. Albert Newton, all of Waterloo; Mrs. Lawrence, Manchester; Mrs. Ada Gleason, Grundy Century.
