Rebecca Sue Paul, 53, passed away Wednesday evening, April 9, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse due to health complications as a result of a fall in her home two years ago.

She was born on Dec. 2, 1954, in Tomah, WI, the third born child of William Owen and Dorothy Adella (Gordon) Gibbons. She grew up on the family farm on Camp Hill Road, between Hustler and Camp Douglas. She went to Hustler Grade School and graduated from New Lisbon High School in 1972. She graduated from UW-Stevens Point in 1976. She enjoyed telling of her experiences during her semesters abroad to Koala Lumpur, Malaysia and Krakow, Poland. She continued to enjoy worldwide travel all her life.

During her high school and college years, Rebecca worked as a waitress at Young's Truck Stop. Later she worked at New Lisbon School and at the Tomah Veterans Hospital.

Rebecca married Steve Paul on May 21, 1988, in a beautiful oceanfront ceremony in Maui, Hawaii. According to Hawaiian culture, the marriage was doubly blessed because of the rare double rainbow in the sky overhead during the ceremony. Two years later they celebrated the joyful birth of their son Joseph. The Paul family resided on Lake Tomah for eight years, creating wonderful memories of special occasions spent with family and friends. During that time Rebecca shared an interest in the family-owned business, Best Power Technology in Necedah. She also enjoyed time spent with family and friends at their home on O'Dells Bay and boating on Castle Rock Lake.

In 1996, the Paul family moved to their new home in Hustler. Rebecca passionately planned and supervised every aspect of its architecture and interior decorating. She took great pleasure in the hours of fun Joseph shared with his friends at home, always wondering what their next daredevil venture would be. During childhood she loved Grandma Gordon's flower garden tours outside her home at the Victoria Hotel in New Lisbon. Rebecca continued that appreciation by creating beautiful flower gardens outside their home in Hustler.

Rebecca enjoyed driving horses with her father. She loved to hear her sister Sarah sing, always encouraging her musical aspirations. She loved vacationing with husband Steve and son Joseph. She looked forward to Tom sharing his latest wildlife photographs. She was always grateful for visits from her mother and family. She loved to hear Joseph talk of his farming antics with "Herbert," milking at the Udder Farm and school with Colleen.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her father, William Gibbons; her maternal grandparents, Ray and Catherine Gordon of New Lisbon; and her paternal grandparents, Ira and Julia Gibbons of Camp Douglas.

She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her husband, Steve of Hustler; beloved son, Joseph, at home; mother, Dorothy Gibbons of Camp Douglas; seven siblings, Chet (Marie) Gibbons of Green Bay, Judy (Chuck) JaDoul of Hillsboro, Pat (Tony Kiel) Gibbons of Sparta, Jerry (Kathy) Gibbons of Hustler, Jim (Jennifer) Gibbons of Camp Douglas, Tom (Sherry Powless) of Hustler and Sarah Gibbons, Camp Douglas. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, special sister-in-law, Terese Paul; and dear friend, Sue Klinker. She will be sadly missed by caregivers who shared their lives with her these past two years.

Visitation will be Sunday evening, April 13, from 5-8 p.m. at the Hare Funeral Home in New Lisbon. The funeral service will be Monday, April 14, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the family lot at Hustler Cemetery. Following the ceremony, a luncheon for family and friends will be served at the Paul family home in Hustler.

Rebecca's family respecfully suggests donations be made in her name to the Fountain Lutheran Mission Home in Hustler (202 E. Main St., Hustler, WI 54637). She so enjoyed Joseph's heartwarming stories of his volunteer work there.

The Hare Funeral Home has assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be made at www.harefuneralhome.com or visit RebeccaSuePaul.com.
