Wendell L. Martindale, son of Jesse Benjamin and Ethel Etta Hardisty Martindale was born and grew up in Greene County, Center Township, IN. He attended Greene County elementary schools and Solsberry High School. He drove a truck for the Navy during WWII at Crane Naval Depot primarily delivering ammunition to the Great Lakes area. He retired in 1974 from Consolidated Truckway, Indianapolis.
He was a member of Villa Avenue Baptist Church in Indianapolis.
He married Johnie F. McMurry in Greene Co., IN on September 15, 1928. On October 17, 1929 their infant twins were born in Indianapolis, Marion Co., IN and died the same day.
Services for Mr. Martindale were held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 20 at Little and Sons Funeral Home, Beech Grove, IN with burial in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood, IN. He died Friday, February 17 at St. Francis Hospital, Beech Grove after having heart failure at his home.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 50 years Mrs. Johnie F. "Sally" (McMurry) Martindale; daughters Patricia A. Wright, Noblesville; Margaret (Cliff) Trowbridge, Greenwood, Martha (Bob) Butts of Acton, Winifred (Jim) Shields, Franklin, and Shirley (Ralph) McClure, Mooresville; 21 grandchildren; his mother Mrs. Ethel (Hardisty) Martindale-Ray of Bloomfield, two brothers Albert (Mildred) Martindale and Victor (Olive Marie) Martindale of Bloomfield; one sister Fern (Ray) Holtsclaw of Greenwood.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1918, and infant twins.
