Guyles S. Combs, 89, of Hanceville, Mr. Combs passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008 at his home. He was born Oct. 14, 1918, to Thomas J. and Tabitha Combs in Holly Pond. He graduated from Hanceville High School and was the president of his senior class. He helped with the building of the present Hanceville United Methodist Church in the early 1940s. In the 1940s he owned and operated Combs Service Station in Hanceville. In the 1950s he served as a trustee of the Hanceville School Board. He sold his service station and commuted to Birmingham, working at Bechtel-McComb which later became Hayes Aircraft. He retired from there in 1981 and enjoyed many good years in retirement.Guyles and Estelle Combs moved to Birmingham after their children graduated from Hanceville High. They joined East Lake United Methodist Church in 1963. Guyles was a faithful member there for 45 years, serving the Lord with many hours of volunteer work. He became an honorary member of the Board of Stewards.Mr. Combs was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 60 years, Estelle Ashwander Combs; his son, Tommy Combs; his grandson, Guy Combs; his special granddaughter, Michelle Rigsby; and his sister, Mildred Bailey.Survivors include his daughter, Carol Rigsby; his granddaughters, Leigh Anne Combs, Sherrie (Wayne) Wise, Cassie Combs and Tara Combs; his great-grandchildren, Brandon Combs, Ryan Combs, Jessica Coggins, Zackary Wise, Justin Wise and Andrew Wise; his great-great-grandchildren, Guy Combs, Connor Combs and Brayden Coggins; his great-nephews, Ron Price and Wally Price; a special friend, Mildred Brown; his special neighbor, Marshe' Walker; along with many friends and loved ones.
