Edwin H. Powers, age 87, of Anderson, went to be with the Lord, Monday, March 31, 2008 at Community Hospital in Anderson. He was born March 18, 1921 in Whitley County, Kentucky to the late Joseph Franklin and Lillie (York) Powers.

He retired from the United States Post Office in New Castle after 30 years of service and was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. He was a 50 year member of the South Side Church of the Nazarene where he was a Sunday School Superintendent and choir member and presently attended New Life Nazarene Church in Anderson.

Survivors include his daughters: Brenda Voiles of Anderson, Carolyn Terry (friend: Greg Sailor) of Muncie and Susanne (husband: Jim) Massey of Middletown; grandchildren: Deborah Evans, Stefanie (husband: Fred) Clem, Brian (wife: Amber) Stewart Brent and Brad Stewart, Tammy (husband: Mark) Howlett, Matt Terry, Tim (wife: Gina) Day, Jeffrey Voiles, Steve (wife: Cheri) Massey and Beverly Gerlach; great grandchildren: Josh Evans, Kody Clem, Tiffany, Samantha, Braden and Maggie Stewart, Michael, Brittney, Steven and Aaron Howlett, Anessa Day and Nathan Ogburn; sister: Ellen Guy; brother: Clyde (wife: Alice) Powers; brother-in-law: Homer (wife: Mary Ruth) Pass; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Agnes Powers; brothers: Lloyd, Walter, and Cecil Powers; sisters: Avis Prewitt, Alice Davis and Mary Smith.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverends Alvin Dayton, Bob James and Carol Whetsel officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to the New Life Church of the Nazarene on Raible Ave. in Anderson or the Parkinson's Foundation with envelopes available at the funeral home.
