Dottie Wheeler was one of my mom's best friends. Her obituary which is quoted below, originally appeared in the News-Herald on January 30, 2008.

Graveside services for Dorothy J. (Fry) Phillips Wheeler, 73, of Saybrook Township, will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Wheeler lost a long battle with heart disease, and on Jan. 23, 2008, officially and forever had "gone fishing."

Born Aug. 19, 1934, she lived in Madison, then Painesville, and Geneva before moving to Saybrook Township five years ago.

She was an avid bass fisherwoman and a member of the Bass Masters Association. She was known in the area as the "lady who drove the red Dodge truck with the yellow light." She loved her cats, T.C. and Prissy.

Mrs. Wheeler was a former newspaper carrier for the Painesville Telegraph, The News-Herald, the Lake Erie Express and the Ashtabula Star Beacon. She held the title of "Employee of the Month" at Sure Shot Cleaning.

Survivors are her children, Robert L. Phillips of Santa Rosa, Calif., Donna (Clifford) Moon and Cathy (Bruce) Fry, both of Mentor and Sandra Jean (Billy Ray) Owens Sr.; grandchildren, Christopher Eugene (Lindsey) Wheeler of Geneva, April M. Fry of Willoughby, Chantai Catherine Owens of Geneva, Billy Ray Owens Jr. of Geneva, and Breonna Jean Owens of Geneva; step-grandson, Joseph (Colleen) Fry of Willowick; great-grandchildren, Chae Mercedes Wilson Owens, and Anna Marie Callahan; and sisters, Maryann House of Painesville and Nancy (Richard) House of Painesville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald J. and Marie Ann Fry; and brother-in-law, William House.

Contributions may be made to Lake County Humane Society for the care of their cats.
