6th great grandfather.
Son of Jonathan and Lydia (Starr)
He married Hannah Johnson.
The Eaton genealogy has his place of death as Adams, Massachusetts. His family lived in what would become North Adams and his will was probated there in June 1788, while he was still alive. His wife's death record in Cheshire, Mass Vital Records in 1803 says that he "died about 13 years ago in Fairfield, New York." Another family genealogy says that he died in Eatonville; a place that he helped found with his brothers. He has siblings, and children, buried in Herkimer County and Berkshire County, Mass, but is almost certainly buried here with at least two of his sons. His stone is probably lost. It should be noted that his family, and that of his parents and siblings, moved quite a bit. He was born in Connecticut and his family moved to Dedham, Mass and back again at least once. Thence to Western Massachusetts and finally to New York State.
John was a veteran of the French and Indian War, serving in Phelps' 7th Company, Dyer's 3rd Regiment of Connecticut troops. He also served in the Revolutionary War in Lawrence's Company, Poor's Regiment of Massachusetts Militia as a Private.
