He was in Texas for about 7 months and 19 days before his death. It is speculated, that he died of an unknown illness. Since the Texas Revolution started on October 2, 1835 and ended on April 21, 1836, there is the possibility he served during the war, and may have died from related illness.

He May be in an unmarked grave in the Hooper-May Cemetery in Center,Shelby County,Texas.
