Serelle "Sophie" Feinberg Dinkin, was the daughter of Max Feinberg and Mollie Abraham, both Jewish Russian immigrants who had settled in Chicago. Max immigrated in 1903 and Mollie in 1910, and both were naturalized in 1917 and Censues say her parents spoke Yiddish. They both settled in Chicago and were nd married there Jun 19, 1910, and owned and operated a laundry for many years.
Serelle married Julius Dinkin, a Russian Jewish immigrant from Gary, Indiana, in Chicago on February 2, 1936. They at first lived in Gary, where they were listed in the 1937 Directory, but soon moved to Chicago, where their first born, Eugene was born, in 1938, and their daughter Patricia Dinkin, was also born in '40 or '41.
The 1940 Census shows Serelle and Julius living with her parents in Chicago, and her father, Max was then working as a retail clerk in a liquor store, as was her husband, Julius. Their children, Eugene and Patricia, were living with the Dinkin grandparents.
By the 1950 Census Serelle, Julius and their two children, Eugene, 11, and Patricia, 9, were all living in the same big house with her parents in Chicago. And by then her her father was retired and her Julius was the owner of the retail liquor store.
Eugene attended and graduated from Hyde Park High School, in Chicago, where he excelled in a Senior level advanced math group when he was only a Junior. He received a scholarship for the University of Chicago for '55-'56, and later switched to Univesity of Illinois, Champagne-Urbana, IL. Patricia attended and graduated from South Shore HS in Chicago in 1959.
I've been unable to find an obit, d.o.d. or SSDI for her anywhere. I am pretty sure she died sometime after her husband died in 1964, since she is mentioned in his obit. I assume they are buried together and am putting them both in the Waldheim Cemetery for now. If anyone knows her d.o.d./p.o.d. and has a different interment location, please edit her memorial. Thanks!
