Doris was born in the town of Macomb, St. Lawrence county. She was a member of the graduating class at Gouverneur High School in 1925 and attended teacher's training classes following graduation. She taught for one year in Fowler before marrying Fred C. LaVack on June 16, 1927 in Philadelphia, NY. After the marriage, the couple operated a farm on Cream of the Valley Road and in 1950 moved to the Judson LaVack farm near Richville. When they semi-retired from farming, they returned to Cream of the Valley road.
