LEONARD P. REINDL
(1945 - 2023)

Leonard P. Reindl, age 78, of Manitowoc, Wisconsin was called by the Lord to eternal life on Thursday, September 28, 2023.

Leonard was born on April 6, 1945, son of the late Leonard J. and Delores C. (Cisler) Reindl at Holy Family Hospital in Manitowoc.

Upon graduating from Lincoln High School in 1963, Lenny enlisted in the US Army. After service in Okinawa and Vietnam as a paratrooper with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, he returned to the XVIII Airborne Corps in Fort Bragg, North Carolina and was discharged from active duty in 1966.

Lenny furthered his education and graduated from Silver Lake College in 1985 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He also earned an Associate's Degree in Police Science from Lakeshore Technical College in 1994.

Lenny joined the Manitowoc Police Department in 1972 and retired with the rank of Lieutenant in 2001, after 29 years of service. He then worked part-time at Holy Family Memorial Care Van and Courier Services. Many important friendships were made along the way.

He served on the Board of Directors for the Manitowoc Professional Police Association, the Wisconsin Professional Police Association for 18 years, and the RiverWood-Maritime Credit Union. In addition, Lenny was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 659 and the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 731.

Lenny was a devoted member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. He was honored to be involved with the church, especially the Men's Bible Study.

On August 14, 1976, Lenny was united in marriage to Doris Baeckman at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Their marriage was filled with love, laughter, and wonderful memories with their family. They enjoyed traveling to various destinations, attending concerts and the theater, taking fun vacations with their children, and always being there to support one another. Sharing holiday celebrations and special events with extended family provided loving memories to all.

It was especially important and fulfilling for Lenny and Doris to spend quality time through the years with their cherished grandsons. Whether it was attending their various sporting events, school concerts, or hearing about their fishing stories and next great adventures, those days were irreplaceable and always at the top of his list.

For over 40 years, Lenny had lasting friendships which meant the world to him. Spending fun times with his neighbor Jack Svacina provided great memories. Lenny always knew that he could count on Jack. Also, Lenny's friendship with fellow MPD coworker Charles Rasmussen was so important to him. They always looked forward to their regular outings for good discussion, coffee and a coke. The special bond that he shared with the late Tom Weber was such an important part of his life. We truly believe they are together again.

Lenny and his "Sweet Pea" Doris, both felt blessed to have had so many years together. On the day of Lenny's passing, he was at home, eating his favorite cereal "Cocoa Pebbles", sitting in his recliner drinking coffee, reading the comic strip "Pickles" and working his daily crossword puzzle. The family is comforted knowing that on that day, he wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else, as the Lord called him home.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Doris; children Scott Reindl of Two Rivers, Amy Baeckman of Cedarburg, and Doug (Jenny) Baeckman of Mequon; grandsons Evan (fiancée Madie) Baeckman and Spencer Baeckman; granddaughters Allison Gehr and Maddie (Will) Auchter. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Kathleen Harder, nieces, a nephew, cousins, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Delores Reindl, in-laws Leonard and Lorine Harder, brother-in-law David Harder, as well as his cherished friend and fellow officer, Tom Weber.

Lenny was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed. His big heart, humble ways, and gentle presence were felt by all who knew him. Lenny led a life of service, always looking out for his family, friends, community, and country. Although he faced many health challenges over the years, his faith in God gave him the strength to consider each day a blessing.

The family sincerely thanks Dr. Mark Herring. It was God's plan that you met Lenny over 30 years ago and have been there for him ever since. Your dedication to your profession is like no other. Ann, we appreciate all that you have done for us through the years. You are a wonderful nurse. Lenny considered both of you his friends.

We would also like to extend our appreciation to the emergency personnel for their kindness and compassion shown to the family.
