The Indianapolis Star, Jan. 6, 2005:

Kathy Bayt died January 4, 2005, after a 7-year battle with colon cancer. During her struggles, she was sustained by her family that stood by her every step of the way, and by her faith. Kathy's bravery through her ordeal was inspirational to all. She was a cherished wife and mother, and her positive outlook and uplifting spirit will be truly missed. Kathy, age 59, is survived by her family: husband, retired Judge Robert L. Bayt, sons Robert L. Bayt, Jr. (Heather), and Avid J. Bayt. Grandchildren Evan and Victoria also survive, along with sisters, Jennifer Cline (Mary), Dianne Masaya (T.), brother, W. Jay Wilson (Donna), and beloved sister-in-law Phyllis Bayt and all nieces and nephews. She graduated from Indiana University after Rushville High. She then attended Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis division. She and her husband met at this campus and married in 1968. Kathy began homemaking while Bob went on to practice law and eventually became a U. S. Bankruptcy Judge. A membership in Trader's Point Christian Church for 25 years included volunteering as a teacher for young children. She became a pre-school staff member for several years. She obtained her real estate Broker's license in 1980, and was associated with the F.C. Tucker Company through the 80's and 90's most recently in it's Zionsville office. Kathy was happiest volunteering in college through her sorority Chi Omega, in her community as church worker and Tri Kappa, and in her sons' school communities Brebeuf Jesuit, Brownsburg and as a Cub Scout Den Mother. When able, she was volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society and participant in "Race for the Cure". Kathy and Bob retired in 2000 to Punta Gorda, Fl. They greatly enjoyed golf and boating. With Bob as captain and Kathy as 1st mate, they cruised their boat on roundtrips to Maryland's Chesapeake Bay, the Florida Keys, and other Gulf Harbors. Funeral services will be held Saturday January 8 at 10 am at the Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Broad Ripple, with calling there from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 7. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
