Betty Jo Smith Gurley, 87, of Huntsville, AR passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2023, at Washington Regional Medical Center, Fayetteville. She was born October 4, 1935, in Kingston, AR, the daughter of Orden and Flossie Cook Smith.

Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Orden and Flossie Smith; one son-in-law, Steve Reeves; and one grandson, Caleb Reeves.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Charles Gurley, of the home; one daughter: Charlinda Reeves; two sons: Brent Gurley and wife Leona of Hindsville and Rick Gurley and wife Susan of Huntsville; five grandchildren; Curtis Reeves and wife Marcia of Windsor, Co, Nicole Moore and husband Curtis of Lincoln, Heath Gurley of Huntsville, Leann Ash and husband Adam of Gateway, and Brenna Graham and husband Derek of Lowell; one granddaughter-in-law, Chasity Reeves of Huntsville; eight great-grandchildren. Katy, Jacob and Issac Reeves, Charlie Elizabeth and Landrie Jo Moore, Kellie and Daniel Ash, and Adelynn Graham; one sister Billie Clark; many nieces and nephews and dear friends.

Betty Jo was lovingly known as Mama. Mama always made sure everyone and everything was taken care of before herself. She had a great passion for her grandkids, her mother's lineage of Hereford Cattle, farming, and the outdoors.

The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 29, 2023, at Calvary Baptist Church. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM with David Watson, Larry Mitchell, and Brandon Brasel officiating.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers will be Calvary Baptist Women's Sunday School Class and Gideon's Auxiliary. Interment will immediately follow services at the Alabam Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers: donations may be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital Northwest, The Gideons International, or the Alabam Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville.
