George Sutton Van Wart at the age of 19 enlisted on December 2nd 1861 at New York City; mustered in as a Private, Company K, 1st New York Engineers. on December 3rd 1861, to serve 3 years; transferred to Company F, 1st New York Engineers, on December 3rd 1861; discharged for disability, October 9th 1862, at Hilton Head, South Carolina. As per his Civil War Pension Card states service in Company F, 1st New York Engineers. Then after his discharged; enlisted in the United States Navy. It lists his service as a Landsman on the U.S.S. North Carolina, U.S.S. Para, U.S.S. New Hampshire, U.S.S. Ohio, 1864-1865. Widow Alice Van Wart, application number 1153101, Certificate 904777. He filed for a invalid on July 16th 1890, application number 787449, certificate 904777. As per the New York State Census 1915 lived at 99 Floyd Street, Brooklyn, New York. Along with his wife Alice, Willian Van Wart, son, age 33, Oliver Van Wart, son, age 26, Alice Van Wart, daughter, age 25. Also borne as George T. Van Wort, James B Wort, and George S Vanwart, as per Report to the adjutant-General, Page 331, Copyright between 1893 and 1905, as per New York State Military Museum.
