John P. Gray
Age 87 of West Grove, PA, died on April 11, 2008.
John was predeceased by his wife of nearly 53 years, Jean Beitler Gray in 1994. Born in West Grove where he lived his whole life, he was the Son of the late Herbert and Sara Coltrane Gray. He was the brother of Donald and Richard Gray. He was predeceased by sisters Helen Lewis and Mary Conner. John married his wife January 9, 1942. Three weeks later he enlisted in the US Army serving in Italy, Corsica, and North Africa during WWII. He was overseas More then 3 years. He attended the University of Delaware and Villanova University studying Chemistry. Mr. Gray worked for the Hercules Powder Company for 42 years before retiring in the early 1980's. He also worked as a farmer. John was a member of the West Grove Presbyterian Church and the Avon Grove Lions Club. He served as township supervisor for Penn Township. He enjoyed traveling, making furniture and gardening, especially his beautiful azaleas.
John is survived by his daughters, Dr. Pamela Gray of West Chester, PA and Susan Gray of Lincoln University, PA. He is also survived by his sisters, Bea Hannum of Maryland, Jean Ledbetter of Florida, granddaughter Jennifer Faust of Chatham and his friend Dorothy Weeks.
His viewing will be held 12 noon - 1 pm, Wednesday April 16, at the West Grove Presbyterian Church, 139 Evergreen St. West Grove PA 19390. His funeral service will follow at 1 pm. Interment will be at West Grove Friends Cemetery.
