He served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, "Rhineland," and Central Europe; he served in the Battle of the Bulge. He received the WWII Victory Medal, Antitank Operations Med EAMATO Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Distinguished Unit Badge.

He worked at Western Auto Store In Bernice,LA. He always had a match stick in his mouth and some called him Match Stick Barrett.
