Alan Dale Brown, 56, of Rocky Mount departed this life Sunday, April 13, 2008. He was born October 28, 1951 a son of the late Irving and Dorothy Brown of Redwood.

Dale has lived at the Herrick House in Rocky Mount for the past seven years and was a charter member of Developmental Center of Franklin County founded in 1972. DCFC merged with Goodwill Industries in 2000. Dale continued to work there until he went to be with the Lord.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jewel Benjamin (Buddy) Brown and James Wayne (Jimmy) Brown.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth (K.I.) and Madeline Chitwood Brown, Salem, Harold and Lois Jones Brown, Glade Hill, Crispen (Cris) and Patricia Perdue Brown, Brandon, Florida; sisters, Jean Brown and Jack Douglas Draper, Roanoke, Shirley Brown, Redwood; many nieces and nephews; his family at Herrick House and Goodwill Industries.

The family would like to thank the Staff of Herrick House, Goodwill Industries and Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital for the loving care they showed Dale and to their family.

Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2008 with the Rev. David Long officiating.

Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Although flowers are appreciated, the family would rather you consider memorial contributions to the Herrick House, 50 West Church Street, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
