Myrtle Lee Griffin Mixon, 85, longtime resident of Ocilla, Georgia, died Sunday, September 17, 2023, at her daughter's residence in Tifton.
Funeral services were held 2 PM, Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla, Georgia, with the Rev. Ralph Griffin officiating. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery, in Fitzgerald, Georgia. The family received friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Mixon was born January 9, 1938, in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late Wilbert & Stella Fletcher Griffin. She married the love of her life, Herman C. Mixon, in February 1954. The childhood sweethearts that met in elementary school would enjoy 52 years of marriage before his death in 2006. She was a former seamstress for H.R. Kaminsky & Sons and Y & W Sportswear, of Fitzgerald. She enjoyed gardening and canning. Mrs. Mixon was a wonderful cook, especially her dressing. She loved her grandchildren dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a member of the Ocilla Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Golden of Tifton; a daughter-in-law, Lynn Mixon of Tifton; grandchildren: Duane & Jessica Mixon, Matt & Adrienne Mixon, Zack Golden and Becky Golden Waller & Hunter; great-grandchildren: Miles Mixon, Iris Mixon, Silas Mixon and George Mixon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman C. Mixon, Sr. and two sons: James Curtis Mixon and Herman Carroll Mixon, Jr.
