Died December 30, 1862, at Fort Schuyler, New York.
Buried in Cypress Hill Cemetery, L.I., grave 583

Primarily, Company B was recruited near Williamsburg in Blair County. Before the date of Pvt Straithoof's passing, the Regiment experienced intense combat at the Battle of Antietam, receiving 33% casualties within 20 minutes just west of the Dunker Church.
