Around 1839, he got married to Hannah Rogers in Buncombe County, North Carolina. In 1845, the couple, along with his brother John Brooks and Sister Susannah Rogers, moved to Gilmer County, Georgia. About 1853, they were located in Cherokee County, Alabama. By February 1870, they lived in Marshall County, Alabama. In 1895, he acquired 100 acres of land in Aldridge Grove with his son George Landrum Brooks and daughter-in-law Luvenia Brooks.
