Lois Arlene Barker, 86, of Poplar Bluff, MO passed away peacefully on Sunday September 17, 2023, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health the past several years to Parkinsons Disease.

She was born on July 13, 1937 in Joliet IL, to Eugene and Esther Kelly. She married Arley D. Barker, Jr. in Joliet on December 17, 1955, he survives.

The Barkers lived in Iowa until 2012 before returning to Poplar Bluff.

While in Lohrville IA, they attended the United Methodist Church where she was active in the womens missionary society. She was a 50 year member on the Calhoun Co. Extension Club and work ed in University of Iowa extension office and the post office as a clerk. Her most loved job was that of a farmers wife. She kept the books meticulously and cooked meals for the men.

She was an excellent cook and her specialty was baking which she shared with family and friends.

She loved to travel and visited all 50 states. She also enjoed playing cards, collecting salt and pepper shakers and was a talented artist.

She loved her nieces and nephews and she never forgot a birthday.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Lorraine Brown; a special cousin, Bonnie Cross and an uncle and aunt she cared for, Uncle Moon and and Mary Neuhaus.

Visitation will be on Friday September 22, beginning at 1:00 pm, with funeral services immediately following at 2:00 pm, at Fowler & Sons Funeral Home. Internment will be in Black Creek Cemetery, in Poplar Bluff with her nephew, Greg Tibbs officiating. Special music will be provided by The Braytons.
